TALENT AND NEED BASED EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS BY MAJLIS ANSARULLAH USA

Holy Prophet, Muhammad (May peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "It is the duty of every Muslim to seek knowledge" (Sunan Ibn Majah) and enjoined on Muslims, both men and women, to acquire knowledge.

Our Khulafa have repeatedly emphasized the need of excelling in secular education in addition to being morally and spiritually strong. Huzur-e-Anwar (aba) recently advised students to “advance so much in every field of education that your minimum target becomes the Nobel prize.” We also understand that the cost of higher education is quite high and continues to rise. Therefore, Majlis Ansarullah USA has initiated these education scholarships for college students striving towards their Bachelor or Associate degree to motivate them to excel in their studies and help them complete their education. Majlis Ansarullah has dedicated a total budget of $100,000 for the academic year 2023-2024. This will be a yearly scholarship program, inshAllah.

Number of Scholarships
25 merit/talent based scholarships of $2,000 each
50 need based scholarships of $1,000 each

The application deadline is Sunday, July 16, 2023. All applicants will be considered for both the merit and need based scholarship. If an applicant qualifies for both the merit and need based scholarship, only the merit based scholarship will be awarded. An applicant can be awarded a merit or need based scholarship a maximum of 4 times in 4 years.

Applicant Eligibility Criteria
1. Ahmadi Muslim, full-time college student (enrolled in at least 12 credits).
2. Enrolled in a Bachelor or Associate degree/diploma program in an accredited college or university.
3. A rising 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th year student.
4. Minimum GPA (on a scale of 4.0) must be 3.5 for the merit based scholarship and 2.5 for the need based scholarship.

Decision Criteria for Merit Based Scholarships
1. Unweighted Cumulative GPA weighs 90% *
2. Honors Program weighs 5%
3. Extracurricular Activities weigh 5%

All applicants will be ranked based upon the above criteria, the top 25 applicants will be awarded a merit scholarship of $2,000 each.

* In order to account for the difficulty level of maintaining a high cumulative GPA in high school versus college/university especially over many semesters in a row, CGPA of applicants will be increased by X percentage where X is the number of semesters an applicant has attended a college. For example, the CGPA of the rising senior who has completed the first three years or 6 semesters will be increased by 6%. Similarly, CGPA of a rising junior will be increased by 4% and rising sophomore will be increased by 2%.

Decision Criteria for Need Based Scholarships
Scholarships will be awarded based on a need score for each applicant. This score will be calculated from the gap between the total yearly cost (Tuition and Fees) of attendance from you official statements(s) and the sum of scholarships and grants already awarded to the applicant for the upcoming year. If the applicant's total annual cost (Tuition and Fees) of attendance is more than 150% of the average public school cost in his or her state, then this cost (150% of the average public school cost) will be used as a cap to calculate that applicant's need score.

All applicants will be ranked based upon the need score, the top 50 applicants will be awarded a need based scholarship of $1,000 each.
