Love of the Holy
Qur'an
Azra Ahmad, New Orleans
Dr. Mehdi and his family visited us in Louisiana for a few days. On the second day of their visit, after breakfast, I excused myself as I taught an online Qur’an class. Upon hearing about the class, Dr. Mehdi got exited and asked what I taught. I told him that I taught the Holy Qur’an for Al-Furqan. He asked me how I had learned the holy Qur’an. I told him that I had learned it from Rabwah. He was surprised that I was from Chasadda, originally hailed from Afghanistan, then how I could learn the Holy Qur’an from Rabwah. I told him that I learned the Holy Qur’an online from a teacher in Rabwah. He asked me who the teacher was. When I told him that it was Burhan Mohammad Sahib, he said that he was his teacher too.
While we were talking about the Holy Qur’an, my aunt who was also Dr. Mehdi’s mother-in-law, asked me if I could recite a few verses. I brought the Holy Qur’an and asked Dr. Mehdi which verses to recite. He asked me to recite whichever ones I liked. I recited Surah Takweer and everyone enjoyed it.
Dr. Mehdi said that he wished that all Lajnah instead of watching Dramas on Pakistani TV learned the Holy Qur’an and taught it to others. I could see the love for the Holy Qur’an in him. Dr. Mehdi’s wife, Wajeeha Mehdi, enrolled in my class right away.
I told him that I was studying grammar of the Holy Qur’an. He was very happy to hear that and said that learning the grammar of the Holy Qur’an could be quite challenging. I told him that my teacher from Rabwah, Aminurrahman Sahib, had already taught me for one year and that I was learning from the Holy Qur’an Corpus and other websites. Dr. Mehdi was astonished when I showed him the website. He took a picture of the website address with his iPad so that he could look at the website later.
He then showed me his beautiful calligraphy work on the dome of the mosque in Columbus.
